THE REAL STORY BEHIND THE
“MASSEY QUICK MADOFF” GOOGLE LISTINGS
Massey Quick was not a Madoff client.
The firm never recommended to Massey Quick clients
that they invest with Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities.
Massey Quick has heard from clients and colleagues who “Googled” our firm’s name only to have “Massey Quick Madoff” appear as a popular search item. It appears that Massey Quick is listed as a Madoff victim on several sites. Our concerned callers were relieved to hear the real story behind those listings. We thought we would share that story with you.
Some time before the Madoff scandal broke, Massey Quick began working with a client whose substantial portfolio was invested across a broad range of managers, including Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities. As part of our initial review of this client’s portfolio, Massey Quick was retained to conduct our due diligence process on all of the managers in the portfolio and determine whether or not the incumbent managers should be retained, reduced or withdrawn.
We contacted Madoff, but were denied the access to the firm that we needed to complete our due diligence process. Given the client’s long standing relationship with Madoff, they decided to maintain a portion of their investments there despite the negative implications of the firm’s denial of our due diligence request. Massey Quick was subsequently copied on this client’s Madoff statement for the sole purpose of providing aggregated portfolio reporting.
