Why I Became a Financial Advisor (Thomas)

I have often been asked by clients to explain why I entered the wealth management industry and chose to become a financial advisor. I knew I wanted to give a career in finance a shot, however, I didn’t know which area would be the best fit for me.

After interviewing at big banks and various financial institutions, I was lucky enough to be offered a job at Massey Quick Simon which allowed me to start my career in wealth management. I quickly learned that I had found my lifelong career, as wealth management gave me the ability to help individuals and families pursue financial freedom.

Building My Career with Massey Quick Simon

I began my career with Massey Quick Simon as an analyst working with financial advisors. This experience allowed me to learn the business from the ground up. After about three years, I earned my CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ certification and started working directly with clients as their primary advisor. Today, I work with about 40 clients and serve as the Head of the Client Advisory division at Massey Quick Simon.

I feel fortunate to be building my career with a firm that allows me to help so many individuals and families. As a financial advisor, I can directly see the impact I make on my clients’ financial lives as well as building close relationships with them and their families. This makes all the work worthwhile.

My Role as an Advisor

Today at Massey Quick Simon, I work with a wide range of clients varying from individuals and families to institutions and 401k plans. Each relationship is unique in their needs and goals and that is what makes them special. All my clients come from different industries and backgrounds but they have all found their own individual success. They have all worked hard to build their wealth and want to make the most of it for their future.

Working closely with each client to develop a personalized strategy that aligns with their unique circumstances and needs is a primary focus. Ultimately, I believe clients choose to work with me because they appreciate the service they receive from my team and while some conversations can be challenging, we never shy away from telling clients the truth. I think clients appreciate our honesty.

The Hurdles and Triumphs

As is with every profession, there are challenges that come with being an advisor, but I cannot imagine having any other career. There is nothing more fulfilling than being able to see firsthand the help you provide for a client and receiving their appreciation.

I am driven every day in my career by my clients and the team I work with at Massey Quick Simon. I strive to do the best job possible for my clients because they deserve top quality service. I also want to put my team in the best position for success. Without my team, I would not be able to do my job. They are a big help, and I strive to be an example for them and assist them in any way I can.
